Hands-On CTO with Cloud Focus at Undisclosed

This Undisclosed company is a Private Equity based in London founded in 2011.
As a hands-on CTO you will:
- Act as the CTO for a small scale portfolio of acquired companies
- Provide sound advice on development and cloud best practices
- Develop and implement any software architectural changes to improve reusability, reliability, security and cost.
- Lead initiatives to deliver significant cloud savings with limited code changes.
- Analyse current architecture (software and cloud), propose and implement changes across both cloud and software to deliver:
a) an improved architecture to help us scale and/or implement new features quickly
b) cost savings - Apply software best practices in terms of both technical (writing high-quality code, breaking dependencies, peer review, high test coverage, good documentation, etc.) and project management/agile (well-groomed epics/stories, accurate story points, tight project plans, etc).
- Assist in prioritising the development teams' workload effectively to deliver customer projects, support SLAs and product roadmap items on time.
- Use existing tools (e.g. JIRA) to report on progress (sprint velocity/burndown), share the short and long term development plan with internal stakeholders.
- Prepare and attend key customer/prospect calls to understand their requirements, suggest recommendations, document the solution and accurately estimate the work involved.
- Assist with building a product roadmap based on customer/market requirements and translate these roadmap requirements into execution planning.
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Are a highly technical person that enjoys both hands-on ownership and technical leadership, seeking to combine both.
- Have technical leadership experience
- Have 8+ years as a Backend centric Software Engineer and 2+ in technical leadership roles
- Are highly proficient and experienced with AWS and its services
- Able to design and drive significant cloud cost reduction initiatives by optimizing architecture and code-base.
- Are highly proficient with Java/C#
- Enjoy working as an individual contributor on high-priority items
- Not looking to become a “big manager”
- Always back up by data your decision-making / thought process
- Have implemented software development and DevOps best practices
- Have experience working with DBs – they use Mongo, Cassandra, and ElasticSearch
- Have launched and monitored commercial systems – they use Prometheus, Graphite, and Grafana
- Have commercial experience with Docker, microservices, and K8s
- Are comfortable managing a small team of 2 to 3 people.
Bonus points if you:
- Have prior experience with fully distributed teams
- Have Private Equity experience
